Summary
In 2004, I posted "Why salary bonus and other incentives fail to meet their objectives". Here's a great RSA presentation by Dan Pink about WHY that's true.

Brilliant talk and incredible animation.

There are companies that get this. Netflix (my employer) gets this in spades. We have a no vacation "policy" and a Freedom and Responsibility culture. Instead of bonuses, etc. Netflix pays a great salary.

If you haven't seen Reed Hasting's culture slide deck, it's well worth a look: http://www.slideshare.net/netflix

A 128 page Powerpoint mission statement! That's got to be a record.
