matt answered your questions... but well..

1) nope, i don't think so.. my code runs well the last time i run it.. it was pretty messy coz i was out of time and i just skimmed through the API and whip something out of it :p (results-only-how-you-do-it-doesn't-matter syndrome)
2) 255 coz at that point of time I *thought* String has a maximum buffer of only 255. bad habit i guess. how wrong :p so sorry to put u in the possibility of getting the same bad habit.
3) 10 is LINEFEED, 255 is MAXLEN, -1 is EOF
