zip compression

i'm trying to created a zip file (which consists) of several pdf files and download from the web server to the user's pc. i'm using the ZipOutputStream methods to create the zip file. however, after the download, and after unzipping the zip file, the the pdf files are blank (they should have pictures in them). i tried using txt, doc, and bmp format and it works, but not for pdf.. why??
i'm using jdk 1.2.2 and jsdk2.1 ..... i use acrobat pdfwriter/distiller to create the pdf files...
