Mouse Events

When you add the ALT attribute to an IMG tag, the screen will
display text when you put your mouse over top of an image. I'd
like to create the same effect, but in a java applet, without
using any html code. When I put my mouse over certain images,
I'd like to have a small explaination appear over top of it, even
if I don't click on the image. Is this possible to do in java?
