Yes, I agree it is impossible and even if you figured out a way on any one particular platform, you'd still have many others to deal with.

What I have seen as a "solution" to this was on an art gallery website. What they did was display the images with an applet that had some little image moving around on top of the picture, so if you did a screenshot, it would always be obscured, yet at the same time you could see the whole picture, in time.
