Applet vs JSP

Hi,

I am developing a new application and I am not sure if I should use a Swing applet as the cient ui, or html pages using JSP.
The gui will contain a lot of information, with tables, tabbed panes, trees etc...but should be as light as possible. Also I have a requirement to upload a file from the users machine to the server.

I do not want to use Swing as I have heard it is really slow in applets, but I am not sure if I can create all the widgets I need in JSP....
can anybody give any pointers?
