getting selected index value in a dynamic Jlist

I have a JList dynamically filled by a Vector, but once the list changes i loose all the events that are related to this JList.
it seems like i can do something with a listModel but i don't know how.
so if someone can help me by showing some samples of JList management it will be welcome with honors :))
