Yes, both devices need to be Jini enabled.

Regarding the redesign, any enchncements involve some kind of redesign. But at the bottom line I could imagine that at least the software would need to be redesign/rewritten to make it Jini compilant.

I have not heard about any product available, yet, but I've heard that lot of companies are working to make their prodicts Jini enabled. Look at the internet for more details.
