Chat Program Problem -using sockets

hi all,
i have made a chat program which uses sockets in java....for server program as well as client program...the problem is my code runs very well on win98(i created the program on win98) but when i run the code on winNT and win2000....there is a problem.
the actual problem: whenever a user logs into the chat he can see only the users that have logged on after him....alos if there is only one user in the room the program doesnt give message that he is alone in the room...along with this the program behaves weird...
as i said the program is working perfectly in win98..
i am confused and want to know what may be the reason for this?is it the problem with sockets??
