I think the default Squeak fonts are positively ugly. Change them (per the FAQ) and Squeak looks so much better:

BTW, I've gone back to using the wmx window manager. (The letter 'o' in the vertical window title text looked hideous before my upgrade to XFree86 4.4.) There isn't much to configure in the way of look-and-feel, and if one does change something, one has to rebuild the binary! Actually I'm still on release 4, because I thought release 5 was getting a bit bloated. Just noticed that release 6 is current. Hmm, shaped windows and window grouping... Might be worth checking out.
