I am extremely proud to announce some major changes for Beantown.NET. The first portion of the announcement is that we are very pleased and honored to have Magenic as a new co-sponsor, along with Adesso. Magenic has always demonstrated commitment to user communities and .NET, and this allows our group to do more things and offer more services. In addition, we have two new appointments to the Executive Committee. Rob Daigneau joins me in helping to run the group with a focus on helping our members grow their architecture skills (more on that in a minute). In addition, Jason Haley has demonstrated a unique passion and enthusiasm for growing the membership, and we are honored that he is also joining us in the EC as our Membership Coordinator. OK, onto part two.
So what is unique about Beantown.NET from other groups other than serving the in-city crowd? Why should you come to a meeting?
The goal of the BeanTown .Net user group is to do more than just provide general coverage of .Net development tools and techniques. We want to help you acquire and grow those skills that will contribute to your success as a software architect and developer. To that end, in our new focus, all meeting topics will incorporate some discussion of how the subject matter addresses either architectural concerns or best development practices. We will continuously study the art and science of software development and architecture as well as the tools, technologies, and methodologies we can use to bring our visions to life. Rob will be driving this as well as starting a study group for Architectural studies that we will offer to our members.
Our goals are to:
- Study software architecture, and answer the questions: what is it, why do it?
- Help members grow their architectural skills
- Address methodologies (XP, Agile, etc.), tools (UML, etc.), frameworks, etc.
- Address use of technologies within the context of architecture
- All speakers will be asked to tailor their presentations with an eye on how to address architectural concerns
- Help our profession become more mature in it's approach
| Please come to our next meeting on May 6th with a look at Anti-Patterns and judge for yourself. We believe that you will be excited as well as helping your current career and future!
