If the trend continues, next year will be the year more than an exabyte of storage will be shipped, reports ENTNews, citing an IDC report. That's a lot of bits. 8,000,000,000,000,000,000 of them. Wow.
It seems like only yesterday that I got a TRS-80 with a tape drive, holding who knows how many bytes. 10? 15? That was the same day I stopped using the TRS-80 because it was no fun whatsoever waiting for that thing to load. Now I feel that way when using a 5,400 RPM hard drive. The more things change....
