I mentioned a while back that I ordered a Audiovox 5600 from Ebay, got it for around $230. I got it last week and started the process of setting everything up. The initial part was easy, swapped in my SIM card and it worked right away. That always impressed me.

My next goal was get GPRS working. I enabled the service with T-Mobile (had to tell them I had a Pocket PC phone to get the option). Then I had to follow the steps detailed here to actually get it working. (Including a phone reboot and an IM conversation with Nino (Thanks!))

I got that working, the next step was to get setup for exchange. I found a company (1and1.com) that would provide me with an exchange account for around $6.99 a month. I forward the email from my normal account there and it seems to work pretty well. The real benefit from this is that I can check the email right from my phone. The company had some info on setting this up, was a little annoying, but not too bad.

The last thing I needed to setup was the modem link, allowing my laptop to access the internet through my phone. This was a little interesting to setup as well, but thankfully I found links here and here that when put together got it working. (The APN for t-mobile is you access node for the Internet)

Finally I have it all configured and working, now I need to find some cool Smartphone apps. Any favorites?

-James
