Funny that the latest rumour from CRN re SharePoint and CMS merging into a single Office 12 'server system' is in their Breaking News section.

The plans that CMS vNext will be architecturally consistent with SharePoint vNext technologies in an Office 12 timeframe has been widely well known for considerable time. blog blog

Currently all efforts are fully focussed on ensuring they get the products architecturally correct and address the numerous feedback items from the current products. Any rumours around the how the vNext products will be packaged / licensed / distributed is pure speculation ... these decisions are still in flux and will made very late in the cycle. To me its reassuring that this is the order of priorities.

In the UK - we are currently aiming for Monday April 11 for an NDA portal partner event to reveal the CMS/SharePoint future plans.
