While doing interviews for entry level positions over the last year or so, I have been interested in how students prepare for the real "dev" world. Some of the best ones I have met found a way outside of their current institution (user group, training, etc) to move from theory to practice. I am going to be working with INETA Academic...

I added a really quick article, "The DefaultButtonTextBox Control". Basically, the control allows you to specify a button which should be fired if a user clicks "Enter" in a TextBox. <SW:DefaultButtonControl id = "TB" Button = "TheButton" runat = "Server" /><asp:Button id = "TheButton" runat = "Server" Text = "Click Me" /> If a user...

Sorry for the missing posts from the main RSS feed. I had inadvertently marked the default configuration on my desktop blogging tool to not syndicate posts. All of the recent post should be syndicated....which is good since I was starting to think a lot of people had un-subscribed from my RSS feed. :)

Two quick pieces of news on Avalon and Indigo: Chris posted yesterday a new public build of Avalon has been posted. If you are an MSDN subscriber, you can get it here. Indigo Day at VSLive San Francisco has been announced (Feb 8, 2005). It looks like it will be a great day of talks.

We released the first drop of Communtiy Server today. (see Announcment) It's still a little rough around the edges, but the core pieces are in place. We now need to clean up the text, wire up a couple of the features, and hit the bug list at full speed. As for blogging, I believe it is missing a couple.Text features: Key Words, Atom...

Darren has moved his nifty little project hosting tool to it's own domain: http://projectdistributor.net/ ProjectDistributor is a web application for distributing small pieces of software - such as tools, components, widgets and controls. Users create groups to store projects against and visitors can login to download those projects or to leave...

I will be presenting two sessions at VS Live San Francisco this year. The event takes place February 6-10. My two sessions are on the 8th and 9th (ASP track) URL ReWriting: Best Practices and Practical Examples Lessons Learned From Community Server The CS session was an obvious choice. One of the harder tasks in Community Server is combining the administration section of the three applications into one unit. We have actually tried a couple different approaches, but I think the one we have settled on is a simple tab based layout.

I have been working on re-organizing the Community Server project structure. When each of the three core applications were each developed, I do not think seamless integration with each other was on the top of the feature list. So as we started to approach V1.0, it started to become obvious, we really need to make some huge changes. These...

On the recommendation of a quite a few people at Code Camp II, I decided to install X1. Wow. This is a much better experience than using the Google application. I just might cough up $75 for it.
