Sweet. It looks like someone has re-opened the Lucene.Net project as DotLucene. For those of you who did not here, Lucene.NET was an open source implementation of Lucene (which is also open source). However, at some point, the project owners decided to close the project and form a new company to sell the code as a product. I have been...

Adding a couple lines of code your favorite Global.asax file was an OK for a quick and immediate patch. However, it is not very realistic for a longer term patch.  Today, Microsoft has released an MSI which will install an HttpModule into the GAC and adds it to your Machine.Config. This should effectively patch all of your sites without...

Wow. Thom reports there are 53 sessions on the agenda for Code Camp II. Not bad for a free show?

If you run/manage/etc an ASP.Net site which uses Forms Authenticatin: This alert is to advise you of the availability of a web page that discusses an investigation Microsoft is currently conducting into public reports of a security vulnerability in ASP.NET. A malicious user could provide a specially-formed URL that could result in the...

I met up with Don and Jason last night at the Harvest Moon, which is quickly becoming the official NJ .NET hangout. :) We have been chatting via email and at conferences for the last couple of months about starting a .NET user group in the central NJ area. It looks like we will hold the first meeting sometime in early January 2005!

Xamlon went 1.0 today. Congrats on the release. I know Don has had trouble sleeping waiting for this. Xamlon enables you to rapidly create Windows user interfaces using XAML. With the Xamlon engine and toolset, developers and designers can quickly build user interfaceswith XAML, Microsoft's next-generation user interface language. It now comes...

Scott Mitchell and Atif Aziz have published an article, "Using HTTP Modules and Handlers to Create Pluggable ASP.NET Components" on MSDN. The sample they create enables to quickly and easily log errors in an ASP.Net application. The Error Logging Modules And Handlers (ELMAH)...demonstrates an easy means to add error logging capabilities to an...

We have been spending some time recently making sure Community Server will run in as a partially trusted web application. (ie, <trust level = "Medium" />) There have been some weird issues, but looks like they have all been worked out. Using Code Access Security with ASP .NET by the Patterns and Practices group has been extremely...

Cool Url "shrinking" utility from smart guy, Mitch Denny. If you click the balloon it will go off and talk to Shrinkster.com and turn that URL into something smaller. At the same time it will update the clipboard with the smaller URL so you can paste it into whatever document you are working on without having to go to the site, paste in the...

Anyone interested in purchasing an Acer Tablet? It is small, light weight, and in perfect shape. There is nothing wrong with it, just doesn’t fit what I need at the moment. It has an integrated wireless card (b and g), Centrino processor, 512 Ram, 60 gig hd, and weighs about 3.3 lbs. See full write up here. I am hoping to get around...

A release candidate for CS:Forums 2.0.1 has been published tonight. If you reported a 2.0 bug, you should probably take a look at this update.

Bill Brelsford pointed out a cool free utility called Password Scrambler by /n software inc. The application is free and gives you a quick way to create unique passwords for all of the sites you visit by generating a one way hashed password based on your own private password and the target site's domain. Using it is as simple as...

As Don pointed out, I was recently appointed the Microsoft Regional Director for New Jersey. Regional Directors aren't Microsoft employees--they're independent developers, architects, trainers, and other professionals who provide a vital link between Microsoft and the developer community. These technical experts can give you the insight and...

RC2 of JetBrains Omea Reader was release the other day. One of my initial concerns was I thought Omea was missing support for CommentRSS. However, after a little more digging I found it. When viewing an individual blog post, there is a small button you can click which will go and fetch the comments. This is a great bandwidth saver since it only...

Jason Alexander has posted a new personal site, JasonA.Net. Looks for lots of cool stuff about Community Server, nGallery, Telligent Systems Systems, etc. Rss here. He is using the same code base I use here. I guess you could call it ".Text lite". :) As a guide, please note on this blog: Jason Alexander == Jason Alexander !=
