Jason Garms posted this to the Anti-Malware Engineering Team Blog: We have analyzed this software, and have determined that in order to help protect our customers we will add a detection and removal signature for the rootkit component of the XCP software to the Windows AntiSpyware beta, which is currently used by millions of users. This...

I decided today to try out PostXING as an alternative to BlogJet. So far my reaction is mixed. Pros Seems to have good WYSIWYG support I like having the standard HTML heading tags available in the toolbar. I can easily insert a horizontal rule in my post I love the fact that it has the CodeHTMLer syntax hilighting engine in it, but it doesn't...

Eugenio Pace, the Product Manager for the patterns & practices Smart Client Program, has just updated the Roadmap for CAB: It happens sometimes. Everything seems to be tracking well for a deadline and at the last minute something occurs. We had planned to release CAB today, but thorough testing is yet to be completed. We at patterns &...

Have you ever found a something on the web and wanted to download it but there isn’t a link? If you have the URL but don’t have a link that you can right-click to save, you can use this little MSH script: Put the following into a file called download-file.msh: .csharpcode { font-size: 0.85em; color: black; font-family: Courier New ,...

Just saw this today on eSkeptic: My confidence in venturing into science lies in my basic belief that as in science so in Buddhism, understanding the nature of reality is pursued by means of critical investigation: if scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of...

Members of the CAB team have started posting about specific things you will want to know if you are migrating your code from the June 30 CAB CTP to the new October 2005 CTP that we released on Friday. Here’s a list of what’s up there so far. I’ll come back and update this page when Brad, Ed or I post any other useful...

I’m sure some of the cool folks over on the MSH team have better ways to do some of these things, but I wanted to share some of the ones I use all the time. Everyone who works on a UNIX system for very long learns how to get the find command to work for them. If you install the Unix Tools package for Win32, you can have find on your...

I think I got most of my "work stuff" taken care of yesterday. Brad and I are doing some really cool re-engineering of parts of the core in CAB and I think we got the most important bits done before I left. I've really enjoyed working with Brad these past few months, he's an excellent developer, a fun TDD pairing partner and an all around good...

<rant> Here at Microsoft, the IT people frequently scan every computer connected to the corporate network, checking to see if it has all the required patches and whatnot. This is a good idea and not something I would ever say I was opposed to. But strangely, there are a few patches that Microsoft Update, MBSA, etc. can not detect. And if...

Lately I've been doing a number of demos and stuff using my laptop, which means I have to shutdown, undock, go somewhere, boot up, and then wait for all the apps in my Startup folder to load. Nine times out of ten, I like having my system starup with Outlook, Omea Reader and a number of other apps already running. That way I can boot up, login,...

A few weeks ago Brad Wilson and I were invited to come down to Portland to speak and hang out at the Portland Code Camp. We pitched a few ideas to them including EntLib, CAB, Unit Testing/TDD, etc. All the usual suspects. But Brad and I also thought it would be fun to talk about Ruby. If you’ve read this blog much, you know I’ve...

I love my iPod Shuffle. I’ve always got it with me. I use it in the car (I’ve been told this is illegal, but I’m not sure about WA), at work, doing yardwork, doing housework, etc. I love it. But I’m not so in love with the iPod Earbuds that ship with it. Most people apparently aren’t all that impressed with them...

For the past few weeks and months, my good friend Brian Button has been posting a six part series called “TDD Deep Dive” which is one of the better TDD-by-example explanations you can read in less than an hour. If you haven’t read it yet, go read it now. (Links: Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.) Then come back here and...
