Swisscom Mobile provided me with their "Mobile Unlimited" system for testing for a month. I installed the PCCard today and had a very good experience out of the box. The drivers are rather hefty, but they have to add a layer on top of Windows' networking stack that provides for the "seamless connection switching" which isn't supported natively...

Wired is writing on the dangers of SPIT (spam over internet telephony) - imagine spitters flooding the net with pre-recorded voice-messages headed to the various VoIP user's voicemail boxes. Interested in the topic? VOIPSA (VoIP Security Alliance) who is tackling these issues, is offering a VOIPSEC VoIP security mailing list.

Via email from Dani: It looks like my previous post on my server's uptime has caused some controversy. I was talking about 519 days it took until the system failed for the first time - not until I booted it for the first time. I actually boot it quite frequently for security updates, yet I absolutely don't regard that as a "system failure". The...

Incredible but true, after setting up my new server which is hosting my domain and serving this weblog among many other tasks (it's also a PDC, a file server, an ASP.NET web application server, an SQL 2000 server, an Exchange 2003 server, all ISA firewalled) in September 2003, today was the first time, this system died. It just hung itself up...

Just yesterday I managed to get an HTC Blue Angel to replace my HTC Himalaya - only to read one day later on InfoSyncWorld.com, that the next generation of this device has been announced by T-Mobile, named MDA IV. Device facts: Communication: GSM (tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz) GPRS, WCDMA-based 3G (UMTS), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Display: VGA display...

Yves has given me the heads up in my comments by asking if TechDays 2005 were replacing DevDays as an event altogether and if we had planned an event in Geneva as well for the French-speaking part of Switzerland. I am happy to being able to disclose the following information: Although we haven't got an exact date yet, we will be holding Tech...

I fabricated two blog buttons for TechDays 2005. Are these still "hip"? Or do they rather provoke a "Dude, that's so 2004!"? Anyway - feel free to use them at your liking :) and, if you do, please consider linking them to our conference site: http://www.techdays.ch

I wanted to read up on what's new at Macworld Expo only to find the site down atm - and an amazing picture on Spiegel.de: Wait, is this what I think it could be? Googling for the "iHome Media Centre" tells me that the name exists. More pics are on Gizmodo.

Via IM from Apa (sorry, no blog I could link to): http://www.zueritraffic.ch/ has up-to-date traffic visualizations for the Zurich area! Hey, this is something! Thank you, Stadt Zürich! Now I only need a Pocket PC / Smartphone client (or a web service to connect my own app to) for the road as the full blown app doesn't display too well on...

Freitag is now producing / selling their "explorer" laptop bags in all sizes. I was able / lucky to get one (yellow) for my Toshiba tablet (even though they claim it to be "only for Mac" - hehe)! They use neoprene for the inside-material, "yellow or white weathered, fume stained truck roof tarpaulins" for the outside-material and has...

The Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware Beta has been made available for download just now. It's been running fine on my system for a while now - without detecting any spyware however... :)
