Metablogging via Gizmodo: UTStarcom is releasing a VoIP WiFi handset (F1000) that looks promising. I am currently using the ZyXEL Prestige 2000W WiFi VoIP handset, which works quite well but is hard to configure and has some OS flaws (like randomly working / not working built-in web server for configuration). As the latest flash OS build is...

Tech Days 2005 will be among the hottest events for IT-pros, developers and software architects from Microsoft Switzerland this year. The 2 day conference will take place on March 16 and 17, 2005 in the Mystery Park in Interlaken. I am responsible for the two IT-pro tracks with a total of 4 keynotes and 16 speeches. Today, I was able to confirm...

Via my comments, Jake recently asked me if the MSN Music service could be used as a replacement for the "license back-up" function of the Windows Media Player - as licenses for purchased music can be re-downloaded from the MSN Music service. My answer was that both work - with proves to be inaccurate. Thanks, Jake for the update: <quoted...

Not quite the "Portable Media Center", but TiVo ToGo has some interesting features as well. I recently bought the Creative Zen Portable Media Center, and even though this thing is rather big (=brick), I love it's functions, battery life and the easy synchronization with Windows Media Player 10. My number one thing missing: WLAN and a browser in...

.NET running on bare metal (namely a 32pin chip). So what can it do? <quote>"We support a subset of the .NET Framework," Thompson said. "We provide hundreds of different objects and thousands of functions. We support all of the things one would expect, like threads, strings, numeric types, datetime, fonts, bitmaps, etc. We have several...

I admit not having spent too much time searching for this, but I now (finally) found the solution to getting the Bluetooth stack to work properly on my Toshiba Portégé 3500 tablet, running Windows XP Service Pack 2. Said solution lies here. Head for "Case 4" if you already have XP SP2 installed. Ah, and while at it, we released an...

Recently, 2004's top 10 spyware was named - among them "Gamespy Arcade". Great. I remember not too long ago, many commercial games bundled this piece of spyware and felt free to install it alongside on systems. Looks like I have to run a spyware-sweep!

Metablogging via InfoWorld: We just announced a 2nd Longhorn-focused developer-conference to take place in September 2005 in Los Angeles!

Metablogging: Have you ever been giving a presentation when all of a sudden your laptop decided to go wild, thrashing your harddisk? It may have been the SMS Agent (ccmexec.exe) doing an Office update inentory (inventory.exe) on your system... I just fond a workaround for this in Jonathan's blog by temporarily disabling the ccmexec.exe service...

Found this in the Longhorn-section up on MSDN: "Avalon" Community Technology Preview Available. The Community Technology Preview of "Avalon" can be found in the Microsoft® WinFX™ Software Development Kit (SDK), available for download by MSDN Subscribers. It contains documentation, samples, command-line compilers, and tools designed...

I received a Qtek S100 for testing (see comprehensive device review on Mobinaute) - and i love this device. It's hardly any bigger than a Windows powered Smartphone - yet it packs a full Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (!) Powered Pocket PC Phone. Performance is great, memory is OK (64MB) and the dispaly is ultra-crisp. Of course it does...

Memory chips are going 3D in architecture. If the same comes true for processors, we will be a step closer to (one of) Ray's visions. Neat!

Visiting the recently opened exposition "Im Rausch der Dinge" at the Foto-Museum in Winterthur today, I spotted a recent photography taken for the advertisement campaign for the Windows Mobile powered Smartphone launch in 2002, in which I was involved. It's funny to see work, that I was involved in, displayed at a museum. :)

This article on ZDNet UK about the (still experimental) drastic changes NEC is doing to its office space really caught my attention today. Here are some of the hottest points: (Quoted from: http://insight.zdnet.co.uk/business/management/0,39020490,39172569,00.htm) In a working 500-employee demo that's part of NEC's broadband division, there are...

Two weeks to go until IT Forum 2004. This year, I managed to be an international speaker for the first time! I will be hosting two chalk & talk sessions together with Jason Langridge: CHT032 The Business Value of Mobility in the Enterprise (2004-11-19, 10:15-11:30) and CHT033 Enterprise Security and Management for Mobility (2004-11-18,...
