We've just arrived in Hong Kong and we're wireless again.  I'd post another picture, but it would look just like the last one except we'd be more tired and have Chinese writing behind us. On a technical note, we're continuing to run into more Web Services No-No's.  This time it was interfacing .NET with a "legacy" Apache-SOAP...

What was once science-fiction is now commonplace.  I'm blogging this entry from the lounge in the international terminal in SFO on the way to TechEd Malaysia.  There's T-Mobile hotspots everywhere for a very reasonable $6 a hour.  I'm even three floors down next to the gate with great coverage.  NetStumbler says there are six...

If you've every played Age of Empires or the new Rise of Nations, you've probably realized by now that they are just really elaborate examples of Rock-Paper-Scissors (Pikeman beats Knight, Knight beats Footman, Footman beats Pikeman...).  Even though I know this - as a 29 year old man I can intellectualize this -...

Jeff Key has updated NetPing.  NetPing is one of the primary examples I use when teaching newbies C#.  It's a nice utility that everyone can easily understand.  It's full of nice examples of Threading, WinForms, etc.  It's also a cool addition to utils collections for the IT wonk.  He's updated it to include launching...

I mentioned a little bit ago that I walked in my college graudation (had a great C# graduation cake).  They let you walk if you have only a few credits left, and I had to take one additonal three credit class in order to get my diploma.  Today I finished the final in my one summer class, and I came home and put Discrete Mathematics...

For those of you who've emailed me about the CST407 class at OIT this fall, I've uploaded the draft syllabus to the class site.  Let me know via email if you think it's too easy, too hard, too whatever.  Feel free to pass the URL around to prospective students.

I've been digging into the Exception Management Block and attending a lot of Exception-related meetings lately.  Here's a list of the most useful (to me) resources around this block. Exception Management Application Block Overviewhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dn bda/html/emab-rm.asp Exception Management...

Well...there was a 1 in 400 chance, and I was the one.  On the TechEd DVD boxed set that contains all the multimedia presentations for the sessions, if you sort by name, and look for DEV389.htm, you'll see DEV387, DEV388, DEV400, waaah?!?  Turns out the launching .HTM file is missing from the DVD set for my session.  If you look on...

I don't know if this qualifies as evil, stupid, both, or neither, but here's a story.  Many clients move at a very, shall we say "measured" pace and don't take upgrading from Framework 1.0 to Framework 1.1 lightly.  We are very security focused here and javascript injection attacks are always a problem.  The client doesn't want want...

I performed my new beat poem ". <dot> Common" at the LuvJonz last night around 10:30pm to a smoke filled room of very supportive and jazzy people at Ohm.  (By the way, The Ohm is now the new home of Johnny Ray's Grill.  I spoke with Johnny Ray briefly, and it's he's got some fantastic beef brisket for like $2.  He'll be open...

I shall be there.  I'm really looking forward to this one.  TechEd is fun, but PDC is the social and technical event of any season.

Oo! Good stuff…I need a copy for myself… This code just went by an internal alias and I thought I’d record it here. public static DateTime Time_T2DateTime(uint time_t) {     long win32FileTime = 10000000*(long)time_t + 116444736000000000;     return DateTime.FromFileTimeUtc(win32FileTime); } [Brad...

At the PADNUG meeting last night the question (Lord knows why this always comes up :) on how to make the system "beep" was asked.  Here's two kinds of beeps, and links to some source. The "PC Beep," including frequency and duration: using System.Runtime.InteropServices;class MainClass{[DllImport("kernel32.dll")]public static extern bool...

Had a blast at the PADNUG meeting tonight.  The pizza delivery failed so we all went over to the Buffalo Gap, and enjoyed a buffet on the house.  Hung out with Rory Blyth, who is clever in person as well as in the blogosphere.  I mentioned I'd sold three Commodore 64s today (+Drives, Monitors, and a Koala Pad) and we talked...
