Having now been on the housing market for some considerable time and not having my estate agent do anything about selling, I've been toying with the idea of using an "online estate agent" like 121move.co.uk or housenetwork.co.uk. They charge not a lot, because they don't *do* a lot; they put your house on RightMove and a few other online...

We've recently added display of contact images to the Ubuntu One website, in preparation for starting to have images for all your contacts. Over the weekend, Andy Mabbett tweeted "I really, really, really wish @GoogleContacts would fetch Gravatars for all my contacts", and I thought: yeah, Ubuntu One should do that too. So, hopefully we'll be...

Aaaaaaaaaaand....I'm another year older. If you'll excuse me bitching a touch, this year didn't look great on the approach to my birthday, yesterday. The Revenoo decided that I'd paid seven hundred quid (seven hundred! ouch!) in 2007, all the bogs in my house stopped working, and I got given a cold by a friend of mine who is no longer a friend...

Today I had a frustrating time working with the Ubuntu Messaging Menu, so here are some notes for the next time I hit this problem. Thanks awfully to Ken Vandine for clearing up my confusion! There is little to no documentation (at the moment) about how to properly integrate with the Messaging Menu from a program. The specification has an API...

After yesterday's experimentation with Adobe Flex to build open source games on Ubuntu, I thought: obviously the next step is to make it really easy to package those games up. This is what Quickly is for, and Quickly is capable of having "templates": ways of setting up new types of projects. So, after a little bit of hacking, and some help from...

Today's experiment: using Adobe Flex on Ubuntu. Adam Atomic, developer of the wildly popular Canabalt, released a game creation library that he built to make the game. It's called Flixel. Now, Flixel is open source, and it's in ActionScript, which is Adobe's version of JavaScript. Now, you can get some Adobe tools on Ubuntu. As I understand it,...

Christmas Eve: go out with friends, drink a beer or three, walk out of the pub, slip over on ice, severely bruise leg, severely jar back, limp very slowly home. Christmas Day morning: realise that my phone, my lovely Nexus One, isn't working, and that this is because the internal screen is smashed beyond recognition: the cracks in it look like...
