As you might have noticed .NET Nightly took a three day break, mainly due to that fact that I was in Las Vegas for business. I was hoping to do a special Vegas edition of .NET Nightly, but unfortunately the internet connection in my room did not work. Interview with Eric J. Smith - Posted on codegeneration.net, Eric was nice enough to quote...

.NET Nightly is coming to you tonight from lovely Cleveland OH. I spent the majority of today working on a performance problem, I have been very disappointed with the speed of the binary serializer, I am hoping that this is one of the areas that will be improved\optimized in the next version of .NET. BinaryFormatter Version Incompatibility - Ingo...

Ahoy! Data Access Application Block 3.0 - The DAAB was reengineered to work with the base ADO.NET types, so you can use the same code with any database. It looks like more and more news about .NET 2.0 is starting to come out, whether it is book outlines or teched presentations. I think everyone is going to be pretty blown away when they see some of the stuff that the teams at Microsoft have come up with. So, I figured today I would link to some of the different spots you can find public...

I have been using the Office 2003 beta for awhile, but it is great to get the final version. Everything has been working well for me, including using outlook to access exchange over http, eliminating the need for a VPN connection or OWA. Nice. More useful tools - Another list of .NET tools and utilities. Snippet Compiler Review- Scott reviews...

I have been working on some performance tuning, which is always both a blessing and a curse. It's fun to dissect everything and time the different sections, but it gets real hard when you have to completely re-design routines. Of course, you can always fall back on caching, but that is almost like cheating. :) Anyway, here are some links. New...

I am thinking about smart client architecture and trying to decide what the best local data store would be, either VistaDB or Sqlite. I thought about SQL Server 2005 Express, but the install requirements put it at a severe disadvantage to either of these super light databases. Anyone out there have any experience with either of these...

I realized the other day I have been slacking on these posts, mainly because I havenât been reading as much as usual due to my current project and the book I am pretty exhausted by the time I hit the bed. Here is what I have gotten through over the last couple months: Naked Lunch â William S. BurroughsGeek Love  â Katherine DunnOk, so...

Brian blogs about Enterprisey, a term apparently coined over on the DailyWTF. Its a great word to described all the over-engineering that takes place to build an âenterpriseâ application. I love when I see a factory instead of a static method, simply because itâs more enterprisey. Superfluous layers of complexity and over-optimized code...

Its been about a year since Visual Studio Hacks came out, and I finally recovered enough to start on another book. I canât get into the details yet, but the book is with OâReilly again and this time around I am writing with a co-author: my good friend Jim Holmes. I am hoping that having two authors will reduce the amount of work and stress...
