Your browser has a back, forward and refresh button. Some time ago I wrote a little post on a back button to include on your own asp.net pages. According to the feedback you liked that one. Here I would like to share a refresh button. Quite simple but it works well! You work with this code just like the back-button. This is the code using...

Lately there has been quite a lot of discussion on "Agile" versus "Waterfall"  methodology. Taking some steps back I want to add my 2 eurocents. What is methodology? To quote Wikipedia :Methodology is defined as (1) "a body of methods, rules, and postulates employed by a discipline", (2) "a particular procedure or set of procedures", or...

Working all day with screen, keyboard and mouse is quite a stress to some parts of your body. Over the years, getting old, you have to pay the toll. Sore wrists and tired eyes can become side-effects of your hard work. So far I'm surviving quite well but I do pay a lot of attention to anything which helps. I'm addicted to Microsoft hardware...

The term RAD is more or less a hot topic on Codebetter. It started with a "RAD kills" post by Jeffrey which lead many people to chime in. As I almost glorified RAD it's time to write something more elaborate on how I think you can work with RAD without making a mess out of it. This will dance around the objectdatasource and the dataset. Two...

This popped up when signing on Good ! Just wish the previous versions of MS-anti-spyware had already checked for this. (Scan scheduled 2 at night. As I do have a life I am asleep. And so is my machine. Missed scan) Share this post: Email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit!

At the moment I'm migrating my website. The old version is a bunch of static htm pages scribbled with FrontPage, the new version is an asp.net 2.0 site. As the old site is well read I don't want to break any links, a link to http://www.gekko-software.nl/DotNet/Art01.htm should keep serving the same Delphi vs. C# article  The easiest way...

In a recent post I described how easy it was to turn your website into a spamming tool provided you know how to change some IIS settings. In a comment Dennis wrote "Some things are so simple, you'd expect everyone to know these things and use them wisely. Unfortunatly,."  Yes both coding and setup on itself are easy but the two parts are...

Red Gate has a lovely suite of tools to work with SQL databases. Their bundle has a SQL compare tools to compare the structure of a database as well as the content. The tools not only show the differences but also generate sql scripts to update structure or content. Previously I blogged on my experiences with SQL compare. A search for Red-Gate...

With .NET 2.0 writing code which uses the IIS webserver to send mail has become even more powerful. The System.Net.Mail namespace has some rich classes. private static void SendMailWithIIS(string subject, string body, string to) {     MailMessage message = new MailMessage();     message. From =  new...

This really good video on the way Microsoft handles user feedback on XP failures (Send / don't send) was shown on a recent Dutch Technet/MSDN briefing. And now SDN's top MS-basher Dick van Kooten has found a link. Thanks !! Enjoy Share this post: Email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit!

I have an asp.net application where the user can download a file by clicking a link. It could be a file of any type. Getting it work took more effort than expected. Let me use my blog as a public notepad and share the result. protected void LinkButtonDownLoad_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) {     string bestandsnaam = (sender...

Jeff kept the RAD candle burning. May I add some kerosene ? The radrace (most links on the site point nowhere) is a competition where teams of two developers compete against each other to build a working application within two days. The limitations are that you have to cart in the equipment to do that by yourself (fork lift truck for an AS/400...

When writing an HTML document which contains source code, like blogposts, CopySourceAsHtml is a tool of great value. It just takes a couple of clicks to copy source from Visual Studio to your HTML editor. The project did have a somewhat flaky status in VS 2003, in my experience the 1.2 worked well in most of the cases, 1.3 usually gave...

When you have a COM automation server your code can invoke methods and properties on the automation object. With a connectable COM object code invocations can go both ways. The consumer invokes methods and the server fires events. To subscribe to these events the client passes an event sink to the server. An event sink is an object which...

An email address does contain at least one dot; Take Pete@Gekko-Software.nl Some organizations, like mine, also use dots in the first parts; like Pete.van.Ooijen@Gekko-Software.nl Imho this makes sense, the dots separate the parts of my full name. But a lot of sites, including FI parts of MSDN, do not accept such an address; it's considered...
