I have started what will be a weekly (or so) column on www.simple-talk.com that will feature a database geek every week (or so).  This first interview is with Terri Morton, someone who will be familiar to anyone who has used the www.asp.net database related forums. Do you think you have what it takes to be considered a Database...

I have a new article posted online at Red Gate's site, discussing the SQL Server vs. Ad Hoc SQL debate.  It covers, point by point, the arguments I have heard for and against using Stored Procedures on Microsoft SQL Server, and rates them as I see them.  The most important point is that security against SQL Injection attacks can be...

One of the things about having data everywhere is actually getting the data from here to there.  A new article I wrote for Red Gate (posted here) explains how to use the Red Gate SQL Toolkit to do one-way synchronization from an intranet site to a remote Internet site.

I first was interested in Customizing the Microsoft .NET Framework Common Language Runtime by Steven Pratschner because I was looking for information on exactly how the CLR interacts with and could control execution of unmanaged code.  It turns out, this is not a good source for that sort of information.  Unmanaged code is...

Years ago, I worked with Paul Pazniokas at a company named Posse, where we worked on systems to allow retailers to gain control of their back offices. Now, Paul has come up with an idea called VoteWord that would allow folks to audit their vote made on an electronic voting device.  The idea is Patent Pending, and simple, yet cool. ...

Here is a link to an article I just wrote for Red Gate.  It is an opinion piece about my reaction to a recent article that suggests that you cannot make a career out of coding.  As I mention in the article, I had already been told I was "too old to code."  What do you think?  Is there a link between the sad state...

The note arrived tonight that I have once again been named a Microsoft MVP in ASP.NET.  The MVP program is very cool, and I am honored to be a part of it.  I am very fond of most MS products, and helping support ASP.NET has become a part of my everyday routine.  I am just about giddy...

I should have known. I was at an important client meeting yesterday, and we got into a discussion over what was there and not there in a two sets of text files.  The first set was given to me perhaps a couple of months ago, and contained way more data than I needed, as well as duplicates.  The other set of files was given to me within...
