I have been looking into doing some WSE development (WS Security specifically interested me).  In looking carefully at the issues involved (including the issue Scott mentions here), I am wondering whether a move to WS-Security and the rest will buy me anything over and above using Web Services over https?  The amount of data...

So, I am doing a moderately complicated ASP.NET form in an Intranet environment, and for the first time I am making extensive use of SmartNavigation as well as AutoPostback.  When it works, it is cool, and allows this overly complex form (over which I have no design say) to work correctly.  Almost. The problem is this: Sometimes, when...

I have an ASP.NET page created by a coworker that uses an Infragistics grid (this is the only third party component on the page) and when run initially, IE takes abouot 10 Meg or memory, via the task manager.  Refresh the page repeatedly (the page is refreshed by a meta tag in the real world) and memory slowly increases, eventually...

If you are considering cross platform mobile device development, you might want to take a look at Crossfire.  Here is a review I did for MobilizedSoftware.com

Seems that whenever, however I try to update my machine with Windows XP SP2-RC1 to the released SP2, I get an error message saying it cannot find Branches.inf.  When I browse, the file is there, I have full rights to the file, it is not read only, and no matter where I move it, the program cannot read it.  After I quit, I get a...

According to this article, this weekend Steve Jobs had surgery for a rare form of pancreatic cancer.  The article notes that he did not have an adenocarcinoma, but rather a islet cell neuroendocrine tumor, which is, thankfully, much more likely to be cured surgically. This is interesting to me, since just 2 months ago today, I had a...

I will be completely out of touch for a while.  Tomorrow I am going into the hospital for some preadmission testing and some other procedures, and then Tuesday will be having at least a partial gastrectomy (stomach removal) and quite likely a Whipple procedure (removal of duodenum and part of pancreas).  All the gory details and...

Probably not.  Scott blogs about a cool new Iomega product that I really need (a 35 Meg cartridge drive with a USB connection).  This is a product I need and want, and I have a history of dealing with Iomega that goes back to the original Bernoulli Box.  I actually had a couple, including the then cool Dual Bernoulli,...

Here is an article I did a while ago on ASP.NET Authentication.  It discusses using one-way hashes rather than encrypting the password, or worse, storing a password in clear text.  Just as important, I discuss why it might be important to securely hide your user's passwords even if you use a username and password simply for...

The Post Conference session is tomorrow, but most folks have gone home.  So, was it worth it?  I think so.  In fairness, I need to say I got here as a Press person, covering the event for blogs.mobilizedsoftware.com, and so I did not pay for the conference.  I did, however, pay for the travel and lodging, and I missed a week of...

Here is my take on the keynote from MDC/VSLive given by Bill Gates today.  Nothing really new for those paying attention, though some of the VB demos showed off Edit and Continue as well as using Code Snippets.  This link requires a free registration to view it...
