Dan Fox and I will appear on .NET Rocks promoting our .NETCF book. Tune-in to see what Carl and Rory surprise us with – I really don’t trust these guys. Hurry! Hurry! Check out the free developer training on Windows XP SP2. I’m proud to say that this is something that Dan Fox and I worked on. It was made possible by some great people at our corporate office, specifically Kris Kriegel, an Instruction Designer in our Interactive National Practice. This material should get you...

A couple of years back, I met J.D. Meier at a developer lab in Redmond. We talked about some things that I was researching on page frameworks, and I was instantly amazed at his knowledge. He is one of the masterminds behind Building Secure ASP.NET Applications, which I consider the best resource on security for .NET. Yes, it is...

One of the questions that I got this week at DevDays was on the supported Windows platform for DPAPI (Data Protection API). It turns out that it originally showed up for the Windows 2000 platform. So that platform and any later releases (XP, Windows Server 2003) will have this capability. If you don’t have access to...

Microsoft, Nokia Link on Mobile Web Names LONDON(Reuters) - Nine top computer, telecoms and handset companies said on Wednesday they would jointly set up a new Internet names registry company to issue domain names for wireless devices, in an attempt to boost mobile services. I think this adds to the discussion of being a developer “that just wants to code” (as Billy Hollis says) might not be a good thing long term. Becky Nagel of CertCities.com has created an unscientific list of the fastest growing certifications for 2004. 1. MCSE: Security...

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m watching for Paul Yao’s upcoming .NETCF book with Addison-Wesley. Paul sent out an update a few days back and this is a synopsis: · Publication date is 5/28 · The book is a whopping 1,350 pages...

If you are attending DevDays, you might want to check out design patterns, specifically Observer and Command. Dan did an excellent job showing how to implement this yesterday in St. Louis. You will also want to check out Dan's blog where he is discussing some of the interesting parts of sessions 1 and 4. Next stop is Nashville on...
