Bill Gates in Bangalore. Also over $1 billion investment being made there. Investments going to India include Intel, IBM, SUN and probably just about any other company you can think of. It looks like the general investments being made into India are just about to double-up again. For those who have an opinion on this, it seems the debate is...

Not many posts for a while, but there are a few things in the pipeline. One of which is that we will be moving offices over December. So it's a new start for the New Year!

One belief I have about frameworks, is its usefulness outside of the Framework context. When one reads about software frameworks as a software builder, one cant help but feel that Frameworks are probably not efficient or cost effective. Frameworks seem to have a distinct usage and when you look at your project, a framework may seem like...

I found a case for a reversal of the standard composite today. Basically, a class that works from a collection of leaf classes, that works its way up to the root. Not sure if there is a pattern relating to this kind of need in another catalogue, but it seemed simple enough to reverse the GOF composite. I need to expand on this idea over the...

It is definitely a Pattern of note. To follow Microsoft. The Microsoft Pattern applies to everything from software to business development. Does following a Pattern help? On the one hand, there are completely differing Patterns from other leaders and other successful businesses. On the other hand, individuality has many of its own rewards, to...

On a suggestion from an interested fellow, I have created a Group to discuss D4. If anyone is interested in joining a discussion group to discuss and help shape the D4 Pattern Language, please use the join form below. The approach one uses for a Framework, applies to many kinds of design work, not just Frameworks. Therefore if you can...

When you are dealing with large amounts of requirements, it is never easy to think about all the possibilities at one time. The design process works a lot better when smaller chunks are handled independently. It is a good trend to do things iteratively. However the art of iterations, is not a science in itself. Having iterations does not mean...

hmmmmmmmm, Windows Workflow Foundation (with homer simpson voice-over for best effect) See Dharma Shukla's blog for developer position on WWF (Windows Workflow Foundation). It is a passion of mine. I simply love frameworks, love rule engines and love workflow. The members of this team must be having a ball.

Whats your fav/most used design patterns? I find that the Factory Method, Abstract Factory, Template Method, Composite and Command Patterns are in my most used list. I use variations on these as they provide a diversity of whitebox vs blackbox implementations. My favourite is coalescing various patterns with the Composite pattern. example:...

Well Lucid Ocean is almost two years old. We have survived and we are growing. I have been going over our business plans, goals and so on over the last few days, assessing where we have come to. It is actually really hard and then really easy starting a company. It has been a life-long dream only fully realized when I learnt enough of life's...
