Being a enthusiastic fan of the Civilization franchise, I occasionally peruse various sites for news on how development of Civilization IV is coming along. Somehow, though, I missed this forum post about a presentation the lead developer gave a few months back. The interesting part from a Pythonista's perspective, though, is this: [W]e are...

Noticed Hans Nowak's observations on an area where Python's dynamic typing falls short in regards to refactoring. Read it; thought "yeah, ok. good point." and moved on. Fast forward and zoom to my world. I'm working on a Python web app (in webware, btw) that has an object which contains a tuple. This tuple is populated by a bunch of integers...

This is probably old news, but I just stumbled across a Python sidebar for Mozilla browsers. Access to all of the Python docs straight from Firefox - very cool....

In my ongoing quest for nirvana in the land of Python web programming, I happened upon this blog entry, which basically echoes my past sentiments on the subject - too many half-complete, may-not-be-around-in-a-year frameworks. There's obviously a need that isn't being met. But instead of working with existing, more mature frameworks (Zope,...

I meant to mention this last week, but (my excuse for everything lately) I didn't have a chance. Bruce Eckel (author of Thinking in Java) recently did a presentation for the California Digital Library on issues and directions for Java wherein he discusses the current state and future of Java, new features in Java 1.5, and comparisons to other...

Well, that didn't take very long. Someone has thrown together a python module for accessing your Gmail account. Haven't seen any other information other than what was posted to the Python list. It's pretty basic - asks for login info, returns a list of folders, prints the content of *all* messages in a selected folder. Mostly proof of concept...

A different take on the whole Python web development dilemma. A couple of commenters mention skunkweb, a framework I've glanced at but frankly never really considered seriously (mostly cause of the dumb name). Perhaps it's time for a closer look ......

Ok, here's my issue. I recently switched to a new(er) development box - from an aging G4 PowerMac running OS X 10.2 to a 17 in. flat panel iMac running OS X 10.3. Even though the old machine was running...
