Last night I enjoyed speaking to the Connecticut .NET Users Group in Farmington, CT (Microsoft offices). I spoke on of my favorite security topics: .NET Code Access Security. I have made the presentation and demo code available for download: NETCodeAccessSecurity.pdfNETCodeAccessSecurityCode.zip It was great catching up with SB Chatterjee...

My friend Andrew Stopford has been investigating the current status of tools for doing Test Driven Development (TDD) and Extreme Programming (XP), including catching up on the latest information on Team System. Check out his most recent posts: Code Coverage any success? Tools affected by TS (Team System) Catch all of his great Testing...

Nothing new here, but Peter Drayton answered a question about the next version in one of the Rotor newsgroups: The current version of Rotor is still 1.0 - mirrors the 1.0/1.1 CLR releases. The next version will be 2.0, matching the 2.0 CLR which is the foundation for VS2005 (codenamed Whidbey). It will be released after Whidbey...

Last night, I went to the November Boston Geek Dinner and I was talking to Jason Haley about one of my posts from a year ago on .NET Patterns Study Groups. A year ago, I asked if there was any interest in starting .NET-focused Patterns Groups and got some good comments. Jason mentioned asking the folks at the last Downtown Boston...

Sam's SOA talk last night was excellent! He highlights some of the features here and has made his slides available on his portal site. I liked seeing both Jim and Sam present on this in the same week as both presented and emphasized different parts of this large topic and complimented each other quite well. Jim talked about and gave...

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, Peter Torr put together the start of a nice sample of using secure AppDomains with plug-in code. For my own exercise, and to answer some of my own questions about a solid design pattern, I put together my own sample last night to fill in some of the holes Peter had in his code (not holes, really, just...

Peter Torr extends some ideas presented by Shawn Farkus last week (as well as what I did at Win-Dev) on creating Secure AppDomains. Excellent post!

Microsoft has opened its doors to all customers with advanced notices of security bulletins. Previously, this was only available to Premier and other "representative" customers and then later to only those willing to sign an NDA. Read more about it here. Here is the official information on the Microsoft Security Bulletin Advance Notification...

Shawn Farkus has posted some code that wraps functionality for loading plug in code into a secure AppDomain. This demonstrates quite nicely some of the things I talked about last week at Win-Dev.

Now that it is November, with Code Camp II and Win-Dev behind me, I have a couple of talks coming up. On November 23, I will be speaking at the Connecticut DotNet Developers Group meeting (at the Microsoft Farmington Offices - see location here) at 6:00 - 8:00 pm. I will be speaking on .NET Code Access Security (CAS). This was...

Peter posts a great list of resources for the non-admin development lifestyle. I posted a simlar list a couple of weeks ago after Code Camp II that adds a few other resources. I also gave some of these tips at Win-Dev last week. I agree with Peter, read Aaron Margosis' blog for lots of great information on how to run your system as a...

One of my favorite talks at Win-Dev was Dominick's "Improving Application Security through Penetration Testing". Pick up his slide deck here. There are a lot of great tools listed -- some I have used, and some that were new to me. This is a great resource to have.

WinDev 2004 is over, and so ends my first big conference I have either attended or presented. I had a great time this week meeting the other speakers, lots of people attending the talks, and learning many new things from the various tracks. I spent most of my time in the Security track, which is where I gave my talks. I also went to some...
