Someone recently asked me, “Do you know if there is a way to enter a search, and then tell firefox to open the search in a new tab?” Yes there is! You need to install the Tabbrowser Preferences (TBP) v1.1.1. Then go to Tools -> Options and select the Tabbed Browsing icon in the left pane of the dialog box. On the right you will...

Pretty horrifying, here's my entry (this does not reflect my political views): How does one have "used" democracy? At least I don't have to bid. :) - DarrellThis Blog Hosted On: http://www.DotNetJunkies.com/

Most of the applications I’ve developed have used Active Directory in one capacity or another. .NET support for Active Directory in v1.0-1.1 pretty much sucks. Things are supposed to get better in 2.0, but for now these resources are invaluable: Accessing Active Directory Through the .NET Framework by Robert Chartier – this is an...

Right, we all know frames are evil most of the time, but you've got the perfect Diet Coke use of frames (“Just one calorie, not quite evil enough!” Quote from Dr. Evil in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me). So you want to know how to use frames or iframes in ASP.NET without the preaching. Here are some of the top resources...

Elliott Back posted a comment to my proposed solution to comment spam. He has setup an extreme spam stopgap measure. It uses Javascript to add a client-side hash, and then checks the MD5 hash on the server side (within a 60 second timeout) before allowing the comment. The only problems I see are for users without Javascript, or who take longer...

I finally finished Code Complete 2nd ed., so expect a book review on that eventually. I remember a few months back everyone in the blogosphere was talking about getting Code Complete 2, but nobody has published a review on it. Maybe it's so long nobody can get though it? :) My new book arrived recently from Amazon, Refactoring to Patterns...

Here’s an interesting open source project, Design Pattern Automation Toolkit. From the web site: Features Allow new design patterns to be plugged into the design of software application as they are discovered. The developers can develop design pattern plug-ins using the application and these design patterns can be merged into the...

A lot has been made about how great the Firefox browser is, and how it’s finally better than IE. One thing that has been overlooked, though, is the process Mozilla is using to develop software. Sure, everyone laughed when Joel Spolsky called the decision to rewrite the code base from scratch stupid, but nobody has picked up on how well...
