So I was checking out C# Corner today, and I noticed their *new* mascot. I say *new* because it's been a while since I visited C# Corner. After looking at this character I started to wonder; is this the mascot I want to represent C#?...I think not. Here is my choice for a C# mascot: Uh, huh huh, I hear VB.NET is now 100% POOP Who...

The Data Access Application Block is a .NET component that is provided by Microsoft, which encapsulates data access functionality. The wrapper class conforms to the best patterns and practices and provides methods for the major data access classes such as: SqlDataReader, DataSet, and the XMLReader. Enough of the Data Access...

The holiday weekend is coming to an end, and before I begin to think about code, I thought I would ease the transition with, "The Trunk Monkey". The Trunk Monkey is a series of entertaining commercials that were put out by the Suburban Auto Group during the 2003 and 2004 Super Bowl. In a nutshell, the Trunk Monkey is a revolutionary...

Here is something that I'm trying to understand, and maybe some of you can help me? Before blogging I got a lot of use out of public forums, and still do. The nice thing about a forum is that most provide an option that will send you an email, when someone responds to a particular post. Although it's not really...

Here's a common question: How can I create a button in my ASP.NET page, which will return the user to the previous page? I think the easiest way to accomplish this, is to throw an HTML control on to your page, and add a little Javascript like so: < input type="button" value="Go Back" OnClick="history.go(-1);return false;" >

DataReader or DataSet ? This is often a topic of debate, when working with ADO.NET. We have to understand that one is not necessarily better than the other, and that each serves its purpose. The main concern should not be "which is better", but "which is better in the [current] situation". The DataReader is a read-only,...

Sorry folks, but the Gmail rumor about 1 terabyte storage was a bug in Google's Gmail application. Apparently last week some users had reported that Gmail was displaying 1 million megabytes of email space. According to Google, this was a flaw in their system, and the storage limit is still 1 gigabyte. I guess we'll have to wait for...

I just finished reading the article Performance doesn't matter. Now before you get your panties in a bunch, let me give a brief synopsis. The author pits "Code Monkeys" against the Enterprise Architects in the web development world, and as one example, uses stored procedures vs. 'ad-hoc' queries created from...
