Here is a nice objective definition of what Indigo is composed of: "Indigo, the communications subsystem of Longhorn, is a communications technology catch-all for Web services plumbing (COM+, MSMQ, and ASP.NET Web services), as well as instant-messaging, voice-messaging, video messaging, collaboration and content distribution technologies." [1]...

While this has been articulated since the PDC last October; Indigo has been officially announced to be available for the Windows 2003/XP flavors in the 2006 time frame. Hopefully we will see a beta of Indigo at the next PDC.  mmm..... I can't wait.

I thought I would note some interesting service news/items that surfaced the last couple of weeks: A new devices profile for constrained service endpoints was released. Simon Guest released a new WSE 2.0 tracing tool. It seems to follow the KISS principle nicely. IBM released an article that focused on some of the changes in the WS-I basic...

An interesting video with Don Box on Channel 9; He takes a tour of Building 42 and performs a meet and greet with various Indigo team members. After watching the video, I came away with three thoughts: My belief that good lighting impedes geekasms rings true. Don still loves COM. The Indigo team is hiring due to the absence of the other...

I don't think it is ever too late to join a campaign that has a worthy cause.  So I am posting tonight to spread the “Soap Message” message.  We are not here to support passing around objects or serialized datasets between rpc based web methods...err. services. But ,we are here to love and cherish the idea of...

I started a new gig this week at Sogeti USA (still in Omaha). I landed a Senior Consultant position in Sogeti's Microsoft practice. I am pretty pumped at the pure determination of Sogeti to become a leading providing of Microsoft based solutions for their clients.  The focus on providing quality training and educational opportunities for...

While the three letter acronym, ESB, might be more marketing hype; you still might want to check out Dave Chappell's (Java Edition) new Enterprise Service Bus book to truly understand if an ESB can be advantageous for your organization. The first nine chapters seem interesting and could be broadly applicable in any service network. A few...

Last month I gave a presentation on Indigo at the Omaha.Net user group. Damn, It's already been a month? The presentation was titled "Indigo: Why? What? How? and When?". There were about 60 people attending the user group and it was very disheartening when I asked the "How many people are aware of service orientation?" question and only a...

Rebecca joined us for an interview during Microsoft TechEd 2004. She had earlier done a presentation during Steve Ballmer's keynote about Web Services Enhancements 2.0During the interview, Rebecca discussed Microsoft's direction on Web services and service-oriented architectures. She also discussed WS-Policy, WS-Security, and .NET features for...

As Aaron Skonnard pointed out, WSE2 does provide different ways to view the WSDL for the relevant SoapService. He mentions for HTTP bound SoapService(s) you can just append the infamous "?wsdl" to the service's URI to retrieve the corresponding WSDL definition.  To be a little more precise, the WSDL will be returned on any non-SOAP...

I have read about CodeRush before, however, I really never took the time to test it out.  At least, that was until Scott Hanselman showed an incredible screenshot of the the add-in in action. After taking the tool for a spin, I have come to the realization that CodeRush is nice.. really nice.  Maybe it is the...

It seems that other geeks are having problems downloaded the latest Visual Studio.Net 2005 CTP drop on MSDN.  I had the same problem and used the following hack to work around the problem: 1) Right click the CTP iso link.2) Select "Save Target as".3) Open and edit the download html file (Download.html).4) Modify the FileTransfer.dll query...

The WS-Trust and WS-SecureConversation specifications have been updated. Thankfully, both updates are implemented in the new WSE 2.0 release.

WSE 2.0 has been released.  No joke, it really has been released. Also, make sure to check out Programming with WSE 2.0 authored by this guy.

It is interesting to see some of the players in the WS-* implementation arena are releasing versions of WS-ReliableMessaging in their own respective toolkits.  The hope of a Microsoft WS-ReliableMessaging implementation in WSE 2.0 was aced a while ago. But, with time comes change, and unless Eric Rudder is misinformed then maybe we will...
