The time has come for me to move to a dedicated server for my blog, The Store, and other stuff. I am looking for a low-cost entry level dedicated server. I am looking at ev1servers.net, servermatrix.com, and serverbeach.com. I am leaning toward ev1servers.net. Does anyone have experience with these three that they would care to share? Linode...

I am using a daily snapshot of Serendipity 0.9 for this blog. I am going to move all of the TekZen hosted blogs over to a single shared installation soon and will move them all to 0.9 at that time. Since work has once again been done on XML-RPC in Serendipity, I am trying out Mars Edit. Typically after I upgrade then XML-RPC from Mars Edit...

I just saw an announcement on ProNet about a new open source JavaScript Archive Network that is supposed to be JavaScript's answer to CPAN. I think it is a great idea. There isn't much content yet (i.e. there is only one package available on the site). I hope other JavaScript resources will merge their packages in. I think if they are going to...

There has been a fairly lengthy discussion on the PECL-dev email list about adding a String object to PHP (via PECL). The extension is being proposed by Jessie Hernandez as a way to handle strings in an object oriented way and to organize the plethora of core functions for working with strings. There may also be some memory advantages by...

I really wish I had more time to look into this, but I don't. I am putting this here just so others don't think they are crazy if they experience the same thing. There is something in PHP5.1 beta2 that breaks HTML_QuickForm. Specifically, the addElement method throws a fatal error that says only objects can be passed by reference. I don't know...

I am writing some PHP again. Among other things I am using some Aspect Oriented stuff. I had written a proof of concept of a PHP only aspect oriented package (here) last year. I know Sebastian also had something similar. My implementation proves the concept, but is very bare. I can't find Sebastian's implementation. Has anyone else done work...

I have switched the Serendipity install on jaxn.org to InnoDB tables from MyISAM tables. Using InnoDB tables has it's pros and cons in this situation, but for me it is the best thing to do. By using InnoDB tables I give up a few things. The biggest downside to using InnoDB tables is that I may break future upgrades that have to alter tables...

I got this working to a satisfactory level before the release of Serendipity 0.8, but it is broken again. I am going through using MarsEdit with Serendipity and trying to get it to work again. Turn debug off in the bundled XML_RPC Server packageI just silenced the DEBUG INFO: stuff from every response.Accept HTML when postingI just put a...
