So we are experimenting with Ruby on Rails at work. One question that we haven't been able to find an acceptable answer to is how to encrypt/decrypt credit cards with Ruby. It looks like the best way is to pass it off to command line pgp interfaces, but that is less than ideal. Granted, we are ruby newbs, so we may just not know where to look...

I am sitting down with a big glass of Ruby on Rails kool aid. When CEP was in active development I had several make comparisons to Ruby on Rails in comments on this blog. I have looked a RoR several times before, but something is different today. Maybe it is their extensive documentation, maybe it is RoR's alignment with my own goals when...

Is anyone else seeing a huge jump in the number or people looking for PHP developers? I am getting contacted about once a week from new recruiters. Another thing I have noticed is that people looking for PHP work seem to have small budgets. There is a stigma that PHP developers have been working to overcome that labels PHP as an easy language...

I installed a fresh and clean copy of Serendipity (0.8 beta4) today. It still doesn't work with MarsEdit. There are a few problems. HTML gets munged due to open brackets being decoded improperly.Cannot get test of posts into MarsEdit (incomplete MovableType implementation?)Debug information in the XML response needs to be removed< I am...

I am testing MarsEdit with Serendipity. I have been using NetNewsWire for a while so this is the next logical step. I have added a post, and edited a post. I was unable to get the blogger API to work, but I was able to get the MovableType API to work (mostly). When posting an entry MarsEdit tells me that it fails, but it works. This actually...

The freetag plugin for serendipity is an internal tagging system. This is not how I want to use tags. Since all content on jaxn.org is written my me grouping posts into categories is not that difficult. I want to use tags in a way that will allow me to interact with "blogosphere". In order to do what I wanted to do I have modified the freetag...

I upgraded jaxn.org to the latest release of Serendipity 0.8beta2 this morning. My old template would not work with the new Serendipity so I themed it similar to my business site tekzen.net. The upgrade was pretty painless and it would have been a lot better if I had read the instructions thoroughly. I tried out the new plugin installer tool...

It seems that PHP usage is on the rise in Nashville. More and more companies seem to be using PHP in Nashville to create web applications. When I moved to Nashville from Washington, DC almost 3 years ago there was very little PHP in Nashville. For the first time I am hearing about more PHP shops in Nashville than Perl shops. Just an observation...
