Create new scripts from the home page. Add gems, code from Subversion, libraries from HTTP. Run other scripts (like the Tepee wiki). The important thing here is that Gems are installed into temporary directories under ~/.balloon. So you can serve the current directory or fire up a wiki with a single command.

A red fox eating bacon? Spotted by Gavin Montague in Scotland. AND THERE IS AN ONION. Wavy-style bacon is clearly an emerging graffiti motif! (Good job, Gavin, Joey.)

Oh, here we go. Teach your avatar Ruby and double the population of Rubyists at once. If you want to toy with it, contact Jesse Malthus. Also, try.sh is updated to work with FreeBSD’s fetch. To give it a try: sh -c "$(fetch -o - http://tryruby.hobix.com/try.sh)" See also: Rubyless Ruby. Ruby for Windows in Under 1K. More enhancements...

So Method#to_proc is basically totally bankrupt. It is now the most severely mocked typecast in the book. From RailsConf: [10, 20, 30].map &4.method(:+) ary.each &(hsh={}).method(:store) def initialize(hsh) hsh.each &method(:instance_variable_set) end Clearly, fun stuff. But, you know, bankrupt. If you don’t mind drawing a bit...

D. A. Black is concerned. Not enough RubyConf proposals. And yet, anyone can. You have like four days. Any explainers out there? David says Ruby-Talk readers are moving to blogs. Well, yeah, lots of blogs. Or is it the cap on attendance? (Search for: 240.)

This weekend was RailsConf 2006. So many earnest talks, so much going on. Some favorite stuff: I liked watching the Rails messageboard evolve. My bow to the anonymous manga. Real lady. Respect. Glad to be 12 of 39. PC people are a humble and persecuted people. Yes, we must endure longer boot times. But we sense our extinction and we’ve...

Hear this: Ruby 1.8.5-preview1 is out. This is a security release, fixing a number of SEGV and parse errors. Tanaka Akira has also added nonblocking socket methods. See test/socket/test_nonblock.rb for more presently. Good! Please, don’t really install this. But do install it: wget...

This week I’m trying to break the skids off of Markaby. A recent Camping audit has lit up Markaby as the slowpoke. And I happened to root up a bit of slowness in Builder::XChar. The Range.include? is killing us because the Range gets cast to an Array every time! My friends, in your lives, in your valuable time, do not, in any case, use...
