mfp: I guess this makes me a weirdo (maybe even more so amongst Rubyists, which would often kill for a Mac — their third or fourth one) but I much prefer this to Exposé+Dock+Dashboard and all that eye candy (not that I’ve used it that much, but more than it took me to like wmii — maybe the learning curve is too steep? :-P)...

Hobbyists and testers, come on: gem update --system --source http://onestepback.org/betagems Notable changes: Incremental updates from the source index. Installs Ri docs for you. Call gem unpack on files directly. And, well, 0.0.0 is now a valid version. If you’re also testing with YARV-HEAD, here’s a patch you can apply against...

I guess RubyKaigi2006 is proving to be a nice hackathon, cause Ruby CVS is suddenly checkins aplenty. Of particular note is the inclusion of Symbol#to_proc, a long-standing feat of clever quacking we’ve all come to adore. Sun Jun 11 04:38:20 2006 Nobuyoshi Nakada <nobu@ruby-lang.org> * object.c (sym_to_proc): imported Symbol#to_proc...

We are proud to report RubyKaigi20061 at Tokyo, which is the first conference dedicated to Ruby in Japan. Takahashi-san, the leader of Japan RubyNoKai, was impressed by Ruby Conference 2006 at San Jose last summer, and has been driving volunteers, sponsors and users to hold a conference for Ruby here in Japan as well. The tickets were sold out...

Frederick Lundh on this Google-sponsored Python lib: for the record, the “cheesecake” mandatory-inane-code-metrics-invented-by-bozos project is the worst project ever in Python’s history. See also: python -c 'import this' | grep way. Isn’t Python already a cheesecake?

Mosquito, a little testing setup for Camping. Even though every name in the `Verse has been used for something already, it’s such an apt name. I’d hate to see it become Camping::Test, but prolly there shouldn’t be a Camping::Test. Decamp is an idea for a camping2rails machine. This has to happen. Help!

Hey, the announced list of ten libraries (from 84 proposed) which will be available at end of summer, thanks to intrepid pairs of Rubyists who sought out the stipend. So, what do we know about these projects? Ruby Reports: Rails integration, unifying layout formats (like RedCloth, PDF::Writer, and FasterCSV) and general smartness...
