Tim Bray: I should have a look at camping. Yes, great, because Camping is specifically geared for Architects of the Modern Age. Apart from that, its authentic wood-smoked hickory smell only attracts some feral cats. To these I say: mepw. Manfred Stienstra: This week I wrote a small web tool in Camping but when I wanted to secure it a little bit...

In the new Markaby branch, I’ve got a list of valid tags and attributes generated from the XHTML 1.0 Transitional and XHTML 1.0 Strict DTDs. Which means Markaby can validate as you go. >> div :styl => 'margin:10px' do >> h1 "Never To Be Seen" >> end Markaby::InvalidXhtmlError: no attribute `styl' on div elements...

So, Markaby is so magical it hurts, right? Well, you’ll be glad to hear that Markaby is getting a big dose of more magic! It’s our magic-permeation branch (aka xhtml-careful.) http://code.whytheluckystiff.net/svn/markaby/branches/xhtml-careful/ Markaby has two big problems that really get in the way. The biggest problem is...

Hey, alright. Lots of good stuff in this interview with Zed Shaw, the trainer of the Mongrel web server. We don’t get to hear much from him, because he really is incredibly productive. But it’s good to hear about his design choices behind Mongrel. In the EastMedia/VeriSign project we were seeing a bunch of attack attempts from a...

Ooh, nice ripoff from Smalltalk. A class called MethodFinder for looking up methods based on what they should return. You use MethodFinder.show( "hello", 5 ) and it’ll suggest the length and size methods. Maybe we could hack it to be a bit more terse? >> "hello".what? == 5 "hello".length == 5 "hello".size == 5 => ["length",...

Wow, there’s really been a resurgence of DRb use lately. Which is great. It’s one of our most venerated protocols. Ezra’s BackgrounDRb plugin for Rails. For passing progress between Rails apps and running processes. Two videos: A progress bar and tailing logs. Robby and Ben’s svnwatch rbot plugin. Uses DRb on the...

Help us test out Mongrel 0.3.13 (the pre-release of Mongrel 0.4 Enterprisey Edition 1.2): gem install daemons gem install mongrel --source=http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/releases/ Read the release notes. File bugs. Try out _why and technoweenie’s upload progress patch. Not yet for Windows. But I’ve got a stripped XP development...
