This weekend we upgraded to Community Server 2.0 here at CodeBetter. We have a new improved logo, and a new cleaner skin. Our old site was getting a little long in the tooth. Iâm happy to report that CS 2.0 rocks! The upgrade was seamless, and the new application seems to be...

Friday morning, I began the process of upgrading our public web site solution from ASP.NET 1.1 to 2.0. Our public web solution contains over 20 projects and a fair amount of code. After one day of work, itâs Monday morning and Iâm basically done⦠I did run into one snag, and it had to do with accessing our WSE 2.0...

Today, I ran into a situation where I needed to validate a business rule within a business object. To do this, I needed to call into some business layers to do some Business Rule (BR) checking, and if a business rule failed, I needed to record âWhyâ and return the result back to the caller. This final caller in this case was...

I know that Steve and Peter are among the many bloggers eager to find out who the winners to the Blog'n My Way to the PDC contest are... It will no doubt be a fantastic year for the PDC. .NET and Visual Studio are really hitting their strides, and on top of it all, there's Vista (no pun intended). Hey, maybe MS will do an...

A common need for web-based reporting is to create a UI to allow the user to apply filter criteria to a set of data. Usually, this involves coding a fairly complicated UI, and associated code to apply the filtering logic to a DataView. This UI usually is fairly static, possibly containing a drop down list to...

Jeff’s having a good discussion over at A BizTalk Enthusiast : Transition from MSDN Universal to Visual Studio Team Edition about the new Team System Pricing. I know, it’s a dead horse, along with DataSets versus BEs, VB.NET vs C#, and all the other *blog post topics that tend to crop up every month or two . Remember,...

This post is a bunch of things, wrapped up in one. First and foremost, itâs my Official entry into the âBlogân to PDCâ contest. Secondly, itâs way for you to create your own entry into this contest, with very little effort and HTML-Smithing. Third, itâs a shameless plug for WSMQ, my pet project. Forth, itâs a...

We've recently received a lot of requests for blogging accounts here at CodeBetter.Com, which is flattering to say the least. Unfortunately for those searching for new places to blog, we're not currently offering blogging accounts. The biggest reason is that since we don't run any advertisements, we...

I recently took the hundred or so top search words for CodeBetter.Com and created an “Explore CodeBetter” control with links to pages about those search words. I wanted the links to be to a subdomain with the keyword as the first label of the subdomain. So, agile would link to agile.codebetter.com,...

For a while now, I’ve been working on designing and planning a new blogging site called devlicio.us. Like CodeBetter.Com, it’s going to be a small, focused blogging site with only enough quality content that you should be read the main feed in one sitting. I’m very much a believer in small,...

Recently, I've started to listen to the JavaPosse podcasts, over at JavaPosse.Com. I find it really interesting to hear about the issues that the Java world is facing, especially since many of them are essentially the same as in the .NET world. Actually, I think the differences between the two worlds are getting smaller...

By far the #1 complaint I hear from users of various web applications is that printing a page is not WYSIWYG. Itâs really a simple problem that the industry has sort of swept under the rug for most of the history of the Internet. Browser printing in the current versions of IE and Firefox is simply horrible, and...
