> I bought the eBook, and I'd like to upgrade to the> hardcopy version. Any news on how and where to upgrade?>Sorry for the delay in responding. I didn't notice this question until tonight. I'll be sending out coupons either tonight or tomorrow to people who bought PDF PrePrints. I'll notify you by email, and the coupon will show up...

The version number is just there to keep track of exactly which version of the book you're looking at. The way you can know it is a completed book is that it says "First Edition" not "PrePrint Edition" on the copyright page. In the PDF filename, there's a 1Ed, which means first edition.Whenever we make any minor changes, such as to fix typos,...

> I just received an email notice that the final version of> e-print Programming In Scala book is out! Congratulation> guys! Thanks, Zemian. The paper books are also done and sitting in cartons at the printer. They'll be shipped to us tomorrow. It takes about 5 days to get to our warehouse, after which we'll need about three days to get them all...

Hi Brett,Are you doing this from the build.xml file in the trunk? It has a javac task for compiling Ignore.java. One of the few things you can't do in Scala is define an annotation that is visible from Java reflection, which is why Ignore must be defined in Java.

> Are we there yet?Just about. The final eBook PDF (not a PrePrint) has been ready for a week, but we've been putting together the other pieces needed for the final release. We now have the sample code ready, and are very close to being done with the book's resources site. I just now finished with the update to the shop page, including new...

Hi Lukas,An Update: I just checked in a Pimp trait to the trunk that offers a nice syntax for invoking private methods dynamically. It will be in the next release. To use it you mix trait Pimp into your test class. In tests people usually invoke the same method several times, so first you'd create a PrivateMethod instance and store it in a val...

I would pretty much always use the -> when making maps, because it is idiomatic, and therefore probably more recognizable/readable than just plain old tuples.

Sorry again for all the repeated delays. Where we are at now is that I...

I also saw TestNG. Are you using TestNGSuite to get at IDE support? I know of some others who are...

Hi Jan,Sorry, one last delay. I updated the ship date to the end of October. It will be going to the printer this coming week, and it takes about 3 weeks after that before we can ship.Bill

I updated the code to integrate with ScalaCheck 1.4, the latest release, but three of my tests still failed. I think the problem is likely that ScalaCheck also will need to be recompiled under 2.7.2. But I've put up the JAR file anyway, so you can use all the other stuff with 2.7.2.RC2. If you really need to use ScalaCheck from ScalaTest right...

Hi Channing,I got the 0.9.3 build going under 2.7.2. Had to make a few changes to get it to compile under 2.7.2, and the only thing remaining is to get the latest ScalaCheck I think, because those tests are failing. Sorry for the delay, but I'm traveling with intermittent internet access. Will have it out soon.Bill

I asked Martin Odersky a while back what he called this, and he said "right arrow". Ron Hitchens suggested the name "bullet" to me a couple months ago. I used that here and there, but it didn't seem to stick. About 2 weeks ago I asked some Ruby guys what they call it, and they said "hash rocket". The reason for "hash" is Ruby uses it for...

In this article, Scott Meyers describes a technique that enables the specification of arbitrary combinations of user-defined code features on a per-function basis and that detects violations of feature constraints during compilation.
