Yesterday at QCon London, Gus and Kris talked about how we at Energized Work get from concept to cash every week. It's a simple message really.Keep it moving:Sustain throughput and maximize profit by 'shipping' running tested features to production at least every week. Automate everything to achieve mobility and continuously invest in it to...

A retrospective is pretty pointless if you don't come out of it with an action, which you then take in the next iteration. An action should be small, specific and clearly defined on a card; can be taken immediately; starts something new and good, rather than stops something bad.

Art Tatum, a jazz pianist, often improvised to incorporate the bad notes elderly and worn pianos made into his music. Arguably his attitude led to him developing this skill. ( Paraphrased from The Solutions Focus. )I think the right people have the right attitude and create the right environment to basically get the right stuff done, despite...

Here's some excellent advice:If what you're doing isn't working, stop doing it and do something different. And if that works do more of it.

Bob Sutton describes the attitude of wisdom as:The courage to act on what is known right now and the humility to change course when better evidence is found.

Ron Jeffries speaks out about trading quality for speed. Basically, you're kidding yourself.Gus commented: The 'cut quality to go faster' view represents a lack of trust in the capabilities of the people actually building the product (whether justified or not). Dropping quality simply means you get garbage, later. You're absolutely right that...

I just stumbled on a note I made just before Christmas on a tweet from Brian Marick that provided a definition for craft. I tweaked it ever so slightly.Craft is ..obsession with quality, tamed by discipline, attentive to technique, with a gut feel for structureand awareness of context.
