I spilled a bit of Henry Weinhard’s Orange Cream Gourmet Soda onto my Powerbook’s keyboard and had sticky tab, shift and q keys. After sufficient annoyance I searched google for how to remove the key caps so I could keep them from sticking when I let go of the key. This guy who did a dvorak conversion of his G4 Powerbooks had the...

Beware! OS X 10.4.7 reinstalls /usr/bin/ruby, so depending upon how you’ve replaced Apple’s install of ruby you may start running 1.8.2 unexpectedly! By the way, if you’re running a hand-built ruby on OS X, build with -O instead of -O2, you won’t get that annoying undefined method for Fixnum exception.

Ruby 1.8.5 preview 1 is available for download. There's a big, big change in 1.8.5p1, ri will now read documentation from gems. I'd really like to get feedback on this in case any unexpected bugs show up. To test this out you'll need to install 1.8.5p1 and grab the latest rubygems: gem update --system --source http://onestepback.org/betagems...

I’ve implemented ruby bindings for the three major geocoding APIs as gems: APIgem name Yahoo!yahoo-geocode Googlegoogle-geocode geocoder.usgeocoder-us And as a bonus, you get a Yahoo! search gem to search either the web or for locations, yahoo-search. The bindings all have similar APIs, but return different objects depending upon what...

We sort of joke about how bad we are at maintaining the Robot Co-op blog. It’s not a very funny joke, but it made me start thinking about why that was. I mean, we spend all day every day thinking about what we’re working on, and enjoying it, why do we find it so painful to share some of that excitement on the blog? For me, it came...

We are heartened by the stories we are reading of 43 Things users in London. The interweb is amazing for bringing us closer together, where we can cheer folks on across the big pond, and share the photos together on Flickr. We spent yesterday arguing in our office about how to make the world a better place, while our world was reminding us it...
