All this reading of Cluetrain and Co. (actually, more Freakonomics, to be honest) made me curious about the current state of the union wrt. to my personal brand. So I'm pleased to report that (at the moment) googling my name (or the name of this blog) returns this site as the first hit. Mark Masterson Process Perfection Grin. First hit. Google...

Nepal's airline sacrifices goat to fix jet - Boing Boing I have, on many, many occasions, said to colleagues in various enterprisey contexts that the surest way to correct some enterprisey software / systems problem would be to sacrifice a chicken (or two) to the dark gods. Only partly in jest. Looks like they might have taken me up on it, in...

Binary Woes Stefan hits the nail on the head here, not for the first time. Binary MOMs are incredibly useful, and, once you've drunk a bit of the Web Kool-Aid, an incredible integration pain in the ass. I've played with, and really like ActiveMQ, but can I use it in a real-world, enterprisey project? Nope. Hurdle's too high. So. One part of me...

Ockham's razor as it applies to the big rewrite Derek Sivers post stirred up one of those blogosphere teapot tempests (which I suppose was inevitable, given the twin demons of Rails and PHP that he invoked). I had resolved not to comment on it anymore, having already posted about it once, but then Reg went and wrote about it, and, as usual,...

From Vision to Execution Intalio releases the fifth version of its open source BPMS, and Ismael is rightly proud of and happy about it. AFAIK, Intalio still has the PXE (now part of Apache ODE) BPEL engine at its core, developed by Paul Brown, arguably one of the most frighteningly intelligent people I've never met.

7 reasons I switched back to PHP after 2 years on Rails I like Ruby. A lot. For me, Ruby is kind of like "Revenge of the Smalltalk Nerds". I don't have any strong feelings about Rails, but the couple of times I played with it, I chafed. I don't like PHP. At all. Period. And -- I think syntax is quite important, much more so than most people in...
