Summary
Here's a pointer to Kirby Urner's blog on the workshop I'm participating in today and tomorrow.

Mark Shuttleworth's goal (for one of the Shuttleworth Foundation's projects) is to spend the next 3 years to develop a 10-year curriculum in programming, to be used in South-African schools, with the goal of improving students' analytical skills. Kirby is blogging in more detail:

Take look at the Bermuda Computer Science Curriculum project (bermuda.stanford.edu). Stanford collaborated with the Ministry of Education in Bermuda to develop a complete high-school computer science curriculum consisting of five semester long courses. The project was led by Professor Eric Roberts from the computer science department and Professor Bridget Barron from the School of Education. At least two members of the original team are at Google (Marissa Mayer and Jennifer McGrath Fitzpatrick). All of the artifacts created during the project are freely available. The code is written in Java, but the course was always meant to be language independent.
