Quick comment on the above: I'm not too familiar with JavaScript, I would suggest however, that you search for a *JavaScript* forum as I'm sure you would receive plenty of help, converse to that *Java* forum.
Might be why responses are slow.

I was under the impression that JavaScript Engines or interpreters are embedded within a browser (for instance). I'm sure you should be able to find a JavaScript interpreter via Google, that's if you want to run standalone apps (I'm pretty sure they are embedded in browsers though). On the flip slide if you really need a Scripting language I don't see why you would want to use JavaScript as opposed to something like Python or Perl which in my humble opinion would be stronger (and in achievement would be much more functional via CGI, and other quick and dirty tasks).
