Netbeans Installation Problem Posted: Aug 14, 2005 10:33 AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem installing the bundled netbeans4.1 with Sun java application server. Netbeans gets installed properly but without the Application Server. I checked the log files and its says

"Installing Appserver8..."
"Executing the following command:"
".\setup.dos.exe -javahome "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0" -tmpdir
"C:\DOCUME~1\someuser\LOCALS~1\Temp" -silent "C:\Program
Files\netbeans-4.1\_uninst\as_setup\statefile""
Existing Installation Detected
Checking available disk space...
Checking Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment...
Launching Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment...
Deleting temporary files...
"Finished Installing Appserver8..."
"exitcode = 50"

I have checked my whole system but there is no previous installation of AppServer. I have also checked the Registry and found instances of AppServer and have deleted those thinking these instances might be conflicting with the new Installation. But still I'm facing the same error.

If anyone has got any clue then Please help me.

Thanks

Ajay

I'm kind of lost it sounds to me that there actually
is no problem. How did you *check* for the installation
on your system? I'm not quite sure what port
Application Server 8 runs on by default, I would
suggest that you find out (via Google), then either
write a 5 line Client program, or telnet localhost
port <probably 80, or 8080> if it does nothing and
just waits, then your Application Server is working
perfectly (obviously start Netbeans first).

The functionality might be embedded in your netbeans
(as I said I have never run App Server 8 before).

The bottom line is unless you probed the default port
which is usually either 80 or 8080, I don't see how
you concluded that the Server is actually not installed
on your system (please elaborate on how you came to
that conclusion).

If it is not embedded in Netbeans then try searching
for *app*.exe, one of your search results under
Windows will most likely be your App Server, most
of such programs would be started up via the
MSDos console in their respective directories as follows:

server start,

Anyways, all these are just educated guesses, in
any case smart money says your app server is installed
and should be 100% functional on your system.
