Is the Java HotSpot Virtual Machine using the Mutual Exclusion and Cooperation thread synchronization?

Is, so, how do you explain Ultra-Fast Thread Synchronization in the Java HotSpot Virtual Machine? Is it related to the Mutual Excluaion and Cooperation thread synchronization? If it is not, then what is it all about?
