Change 3D look of a window border?

We have a requirement to have our Java GUI run in an extreme low light situation. This means that the colors have to be very dim.

We can cover most of the bases with a custom Look and Feel but one of the issues is the 3D looking nature of windows in Java. Is there any way to turn
that off at the Look and Feel level?

Basically the little white line that makes a widnow look 3D is still way too bright for our customer's purposes.
