JRE 1.4.1 - Disappearing Cursor

Have installed JRE 1.4.1 onto a computer running W98-SE. Whenever I move the cursor over a menu item, the cursor disappears for a second or so and then re-appears. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any ideas as to the cause?

Note, does not happen with the 1.3.x JRE.
