You can, But the subject you given is incorrect, TSR programm can be written using only Pointers. in C, C++, in java you can't access memory directly, so it can not be a TSR prg....

Okay, so I messed up with the subject.

How can I implement such a program?

I think you will need to wrap it in a c/c++ program which will have that type of beavior...
I wander why you want that & write the program in Java but it is not my business...
BTW, this 'feature' is not portable, of course

If you want to write a program that runs in the 'background' all you have to do is not show any ui. Running a java console app with javaw does that.

To get the tray icon, you'll need JNI, or a separate little app in C/C++, Delphi, C#, etc. that puts the icon there. Of course, if you want the icon to have a menu, open a configuration dialog and all that good stuff, then you'll begin to need a more more full-featured JNI NotifyIcon component, or it may make more sense to do the whole thing in a Windows-dependent way.

What exactly are you trying to do?

I created a software wich converts Cad-Data to CNC-Operations.
Using jintegra I want to create a com server and instead of having the gui allways open I want a background program wich launches the gui or does some other operations if someone calls it from AutoCad/Prolignum3D.
