Summary
I gave my wife a new phone for her birthday. But it was not recognized by iSync (I guess the phone is too new). I found a hint on an Italian bulletin board which I a am copying now.

Edit this file:

/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist

(make a backup first!)

Somewhere at an appropriate place (e.g. after the first <dict>), add this XML:

<key>com.motorola.razorV3xx</key>
<dict>
        <key>Identification</key>
        <dict>
                <key>com.apple.cgmi+cgmm</key>
                <string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2006"+"GSM900","GSM1800","GSM1900","WCDMA","MODEL=RAZRV3xx"</string>
                <key>com.apple.gmi+gmm</key>
                <string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2006"+"GSM900","GSM1800","GSM1900","WCDMA","MODEL=RAZRV3xx"</string>
        </dict>
        <key>InheritsFrom</key>
        <array>
                <string>com.motorola.switchable-usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902</string>
        </array>
        <key>Services</key>
        <array>
                <dict>
                        <key>ServiceName</key>
                        <string>com.apple.model</string>
                        <key>ServiceProperties</key>
                        <dict>
                                <key>ModelIcon</key>
                                <string>MOTV3-silver.tiff</string>
                                <key>ModelName</key>
                                <string>RAZR V3xx</string>
                        </dict>
                </dict>
                <dict>
                        <key>ServiceName</key>
                        <string>com.apple.synchro</string>
                        <key>ServiceProperties</key>
                        <dict>
                                <key>stringEncoding</key>
                                <string>UCS2</string>
                        </dict>
                </dict>
        </array>
</dict>

Note: I think all that indentation should be tabs. Use at your own risk. And, I'll say it again: make a backup first! If iSync is already running, quit it and restart it. No reboot necessary!

The good news is that this is an excellent substitute for hunting down a RAZR v3xx plugin for iSync (one exists, but doesn't fully support the v3xx).

On the initial "erase everything on the phone and push it fresh from the Mac," contacts transfer flawlessly.

The bad news is that calendars still don't sync from the Mac to the v3xx.

The ugly news is that, on subsequent syncs, the phone will push a ton of unneeded changes back to the Mac -- of 156 cards in my Address Book, the v3xx thinks that it would like to modify 78 of them, and add another 71, without my having even touched one of them on the handset. Luckily iSync warns you and provides a chance to cancel the sync if it will affect 5% or more of the data on the computer.

In the mean time, I guess we have to wait for Leopard and hope for an iSync update. The step backward in support is very disappointing; I'd gotten spoiled by how well my RAZR v3 synced. :-(

Hi,

Check this Apple page, to get more information about stuff compatible with isync:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html

Cheers, Simon.

That was the first page I found, but it is useless. It doesn't list the v3xx, and certainly doesn't tell yoy what to do about phones not listed. Apparently Motorola doesn't really care about iSync either.

Well, I tried it on my new V3xx bought in August 2008, no go. I have seen references to the plugin in a zip format, does anyone know where it can be found - - the links given on the weblog do not seem to work.

After much hair-pulling and messing about with apple's bluetooth developer tools, I discovered that my (newer) razr v3xx doesn't have the same device string as the one the article provides.

Setting MODEL= RAZRV3XXR_J in the appropriate places, however, does the trick.

If that still doesn't work for you, playing around with apple's bluetooth packet sniffer can detect what model string your phone does sent.

I see it has been a while since anyone has posted about this topic... I did try what I found here, but am still not able to get iSync 2.4 (OS X, 10.4.11) to see the RAZR V3xxR device. Any other suggestions?

Try adding this to /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/ PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist as suggested above...

This worked for me.

<key>com.motorola.razrV3xx</key>
<dict>
<key>Identification</key>
<dict>
<key>com.apple.cgmi+cgmm</key>
<string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2006"+"GSM900","GSM1800","GSM1900","WCDMA","MODEL=RAZRV3XXR_J"</string>
<key>com.apple.gmi+gmm</key>
<string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2006"+"GSM900","GSM1800","GSM1900","WCDMA","MODEL=RAZRV3XXR_J"</string>
</dict>
<key>InheritsFrom</key>
<array>
<string>com.motorola.switchable-usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902</string>
</array>
<key>Services</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>ServiceName</key>
<string>com.apple.model</string>
<key>ServiceProperties</key>
<dict>
<key>ModelIcon</key>
<string>MOTV3-silver.tiff</string>
<key>ModelName</key>
<string>RAZR V3xx</string>
</dict>
</dict>
<dict>
<key>ServiceName</key>
<string>com.apple.synchro</string>
<key>ServiceProperties</key>
<dict>
<key>stringEncoding</key>
<string>UCS2</string>
</dict>
</dict>
</array>
</dict>

I know this Post is Really Really OLD but I need some help with the .plist XML below…

I tried to Copy and Pasting this inside the MetaClasses.plist in

"Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneCo nduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resource s /MetaClasses.plist"

but it wouldn't allow me to save the changes… This is what it says:
"The document "MetaClasses.plist" could not be saved. You don't have Permission.
To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info."

But I've changed Permissions to "MetaClasses.plist" then I tried to save it again… Same Error.
So I went back a folder "Using the Back Arrow" to, "Resources" and Right clicked on Resources/Get Info/went to very bottom "Sharing & Permissions:/ Clicked the LOCK/ Entered my admin password/ Clicked + sign/ Added My User Name which is Admin/ Added myself, (You should know only "system/Read & write, wheel/Read only, everyone/Read only" was in this list before I added my User name and gave myself/Read & write Privilege)
clicked the Lock to lock it back and closed Get info window.
I then went back to the Text Editor.app window and clicked File/Save and it gave the same error as above... I tried Save As and it wanted to overwrite the MetaClasses.plist file which I did by moving the Original on to the desktop.
And I replaced it with the one I edited...

It's still not allowing me to use iSync with USB... What am I doing wrong?
The Phone is set to use DATA Com. on the connection in settings.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thank you
